DAVID HUNG Timeline & Filmography

NOTES by Andrew Leavold: Hong Kong producer and director with a long association with the Philippines, starting with Bobby A. Suarez and Dolphy, and continuing with his film companies Davian International - first as a distributor of primarily English-dubbed Filipino films, then as a production outfit - and post-production facility Digilink. His Filipino business partners were husband-and-wife team Andy Andico (Dolphy's nephew) and Vivian Andico (also known as Vivian Villahermosa). My interview with Andy and Vivian will be posted here in the future. Hung was later one of the producers of the globally-successful martial arts comedy Kung Fu Hustle (2004) starring Stephen Chow. I've desperately tried over the years to contact David with no success - does anyone have any leads?

1971 - Five Plus Five (Hung's very first credit, as editor on a Taiwanese romantic comedy)

1977 - Bionic Boy (produced by Bobby A. Suarez; Hung edited the film while Bobby still was connected with his Hong Kong company Intercontinental Film [HK])

1978 - They Call Her Cleopatra Wong (produced and directed by Bobby A. Suarez; David is listed as the Hong Kong cinematographer and production manager)

1982 - Dancing Master 2: Macao Connection (Dolphy comedy filmed partly in Macao and Hong Kong; in the first of several projects with Dolphy, Hung is credited as the Hong Kong coordinator)

c.1987-1988 - Hung forms the distribution company Davian International Ltd (from "David" and his wife Anjantre aka "Anne"), technically based in Hong Kong, but dubbing Tagalog films into English in its main base of operations in the Philippines: Zigomar (1984), Blasting Bullets (original Tagalog title Hari Ng Gatilyo, 1985), Sparrow Unit: The Termination Squad (1987), Commander Lawin (Renato Solidum…Kumander Lawin; 1981), Warcamp/POW Deathcamp (1988), The Day They Robbed America (The Sangley Point Robbery; 1985), Raiders Of The Paradise (Palawan; 1980), Wild Force (1985), The Lethal Hunt (Partida, 1985), Hill 171 (1987), Get Victor Corpus: The Rebel Soldier Philippines (1987), and others. Several of these titles also list Malaysian-based Sunny Films - Sunny Lim, Bobby A. Suarez's local representative for BAS Films circa 1977-78 - as a co-distributor. In 1987 Davian also releases two Thai action films, Cobra Thunderbolt (1984), and Eyes Of The Condor (c.1984).

1987 - Action Is Not Missing (Dolphy action-comedy; Davian is listed as a distributor only, but Hung may also be an uncredited co-producer along with Dolphy)

1989 - My Darling Domestik (actor only in this Dolphy comedy set in Hong Kong but filmed in the Philippines)

1989 - Battle Rats (a co-production between Davian International and Ben Yalung's Cine Suerte Inc, soon after Davian distributed Cine Suerte's Sparrow Unit: The Termination Squad ([1987], as well as Partida [1985] as "The Lethal Hunt"; Yalung was also the director as “Briggs Benjamin Sr”, while executive producer Hung is credited as "David Hunt")

1989 - The Hunted (first production for Davian International Ltd - David as producer and director is credited as "David Hunt", while his executive producer wife Anjantre is listed as "Anjantre Hunt”. 1st Assistant Director Andy is credited as "Andy Anderson", and Production Assistant Vivian as "Vivian Anderson")
